Episode Summary

Trans-exclusionary radical feminism (TERF) refers to a specific strand of feminist ideology that excludes transgender women from women’s spaces and denies their gender identity. TERF ideology is rooted in the belief that gender is solely determined by biological sex, and therefore trans women, who were assigned male at birth, should not be recognized as women.

With me today I have Feminist M and McKenzie Levi who’s also known as the Alt Knight.

Feminist M is a Gender-Exclusionary Feminist but does not believe in the eradication of all Transgender individuals like most TERFs do. She’s a yoga instructor and unlike many others, Feminist M accepts all individuals including transgender-identifying people into her studio.

It is important to address that TERF beliefs are widely criticized for being discriminatory and transphobic, with a 99.9 percent of them really being Transphobic as they deny the lived experiences and identities of transgender individuals.

Advocates such as myself who believe in transgender rights and inclusive feminism assert that gender is a complex social construct that goes beyond ones assigned sex at birth, and advocate for the inclusion and affirmation of all gender identities within feminist movements fight daily to educate these individuals about the Transgender Community and how they are our allies, not our enemies.
